First Generation Series
The Beginning
18 x 20 in
Color Pencil Illustration
The First Generation Series is based off my cultural experiences and influences as a first generation American Latina. I love to incorporate aspects of my culture into my art to give viewers a sense of who I am and where I come from. In creating this ongoing series of different mediums of representing my story, I like to think that I am also representing many others with similar stories, giving a voice to some that may feel under represented or unable to express what they may feel.
The Beginning and Struggles and Triumph, try to convey the different aspects of a Mexican American's experience with being in their own homeland where they may be divided by their different cultural influences. These illustrations show the hardships and achievements people may have experienced growing up, using a combination of both American and Mexican influences.

Mujer
24 x 32 in
Acrylic Painting
The painting Mujer, depicts aspects of my own personal cultural background, from representing the Oaxacan inspired huipil from my mother’s side, to the monarch butterflies from Michoacan representing my father’s side of the family. With this I try to show the liberty and promise I have with being born in the U.S., not forgetting where I stemmed from.
